THE C&MP SHOW
How C&MP began
C&MP started, as many good things do, with a problem.
In 2023, founder Debra Tammer was living in New York and preparing to apply for a US visa. She knew she needed to demonstrate that she wasn’t simply waiting around for opportunities to come to her — she was entrepreneurial, creating her own work and building something of her own. So she decided to put on a show.
The first C&MP was something of an experiment. In May 2023, Debra took over an unusual little space on Broadway and West 83rd Street on New York’s Upper West Side: a former pharmacy that had somehow become The Bitcoin Center. It wasn’t a comedy club. It wasn’t really a theatre. And it definitely wasn’t an obvious place to launch a new entertainment night. Perfect. Debra booked ten comedians, a cellist and a DJ, with an after-party to follow.
The idea was to create something that felt less like a conventional comedy night and more like a party: brilliant live performance, different art forms, unexpected combinations of people and, crucially, somewhere everyone actually wanted to stay once the show was over. It was a hit. What began partly as a way of proving to the US government that Debra was capable of creating her own opportunities turned into something she genuinely wanted to keep creating.
